apartment living and society's refusal to consider the reality that they are not special
i would rather die than to welcome a new neighbor into the neighborhood with a nice store bought pie but if there is one thing i would never do, is be a selfish neighbor. i am shocked and appalled at the behavior of the grown ass adults inhabiting the building alongside me. if you need a good example for how the culture of our country is so centric to the individual, look no further than apartment living.
i'm autistic, undiagnosed but we're all pretty sure, and following rules is something my mind not only enforces on myself but expects it of others furiously. so when the parking lot policy is 'no back in parking' and i see three cars in the parking lot backed into their spot, a heat bubbles up in my stomach so unjustified and beyond an acceptable level that i have to take a breath. i have to mentally time out. when i see a greasy pizza box in the recycling bin when we were all handed the same 'do not place this in the recycling bin' list which included greasy pizza boxes, i am faced with the death of community as we know it.
is it an exaggeration to say that witnessing the way people live their lives in an apartment complex as if they were the only ones in said complex is the reason our world is in the early stages of apocalypse? no i don't think so. i think doomsday will be brought on by the people who slam the door to the garbage chute room at 11pm despite their sleepy neighbor, who hasn't had a full nights rest since she was a teenager, laying right next door.
the golden rule weeps as it watches the world not pick up their dog's shit.
